South & City College win RoSPA award for fifth year in a row

For the fifth year in a row South & City College Birmingham has won the RoSPA Education & Training Services Industry Sector Award in recognition of its exceptional health and safety performance.

The internationally renowned RoSPA Awards recognise achievement and progress within health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce engagement and the College is the only public sector institution to have won this award.

The college are honoured to be acknowledged by one of the longest-running industry awards schemes in the UK for their practices in helping improve the wellbeing of their staff and students.

After a site visit by RoSPA representatives to assess a number of elements such as training and competence, communications and occupational health, South & City were also one of the three organisations shortlisted from the all industry sector entrants for the Sir George Earl trophy, RoSPA’s top accolade.

Mike Hopkins Principal at the College commented: “For any organisation to win this award is a major achievement, but for South & City College, a public sector college to win – and win it for 5 consecutive years is nothing short of amazing. I would like to say a huge thank you to our Health & Safety team for helping us all achieve this accolade, which is down to the hard work and dedication of our employees and a culture of safety for all.”

The college was presented with the award on Thursday 6th June 2019 at The Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel. The presentation ceremony and evening gala dinner presented the perfect opportunity for senior management, members of staff and governors to celebrate their win.

RoSPA’s specialist award categories based around health at work and environmental management are presented to organisations within 24 industry sectors, including construction, healthcare, transport and logistics, engineering, manufacturing and education.
